Michael was born and raised in the Federal Way/Auburn area and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1976. Upon graduating, he enrolled in Peninsula Community College and majored in Political Science and Economics. In 1977 Michael enrolled in Divers Institute of Technology to become a Professional Deep Sea Diver. Upon graduating in 1978, at the top of his class, he went to work as a diver for a local company out of the Des Moines marina. In 1980 Michael went to work for The Squire Shops and became a truck driver. Michael continued to drive trucks over the next 15 years for North American Van Lines as an owner operator, Atlas Van Lines, System Transfer, Mitchell Brothers as an owner operator, and Holland Enterprises. Michael began programming computers in the 1980's and continued to carry a computer and program during the 15 years of driving trucks. In 1995 Michael opened his first business in computer building, tech support, programming, and IT services. In addition, Michael opened an Internet based radio and television company broadcasting races from all over the country and doing a two hour live radio and television show five nights a week from the company's studios. Michael continues to work his first business and has either retired or sold off all of his other ventures.
Michael is also a patented inventor and has been inventing useful mechanical apparatus since he was 14 years old. One of his inventions is a speaker enclosure technology that baffles both sound engineers and physicists in the speakers ability to reproduce precise sound in the sub-bass range. The problem of reproducing accurate sound in the sub-base frequencies has plagued speaker designers for years. The solution was so simple it was hard for engineers and physicists to understand it.
I related this story to you, for you to understand that sometimes solutions to complex problems do not need to be complex to be eloquent. It is the same in government. Complex is not always better and many times complex thinking gets in the way of workable solutions.
As a patented inventor, Michael understands what it takes to discover solutions to tough problems. Government attempts to find solutions to tough problems everyday. Michael understands this and is prepared to take his problem solving abilities to Olympia for the benefit of the people.
